STAVE

Set underground where light, work, and even air is shared, STAVE features the full RWB Company in this riveting work from Ballet Kelowna’s Artist-in-Residence Cameron Fraser-Monroe.  One of the biggest differences between Indigenous and Western cultures is the belief in community versus the belief in self.  Fraser-Monroe examines this world sense through functional movement echoing both the mechanical force and the human vulnerability of mining, driven by Juno-nominated two-spirit composer Cris Derksen’s industrious score.  When the dancers cannot escape their impact on the environment they inhabit, they are forced to find a new way of working.
