payɛčot yɛχət

In payɛčot yɛχət, meaning “I always remember” in Ayajuthem, Fraser-Monroe returns to the circular patterns of hoop dance to reflect on memory, ancestry, and the body’s role in storytelling. Set to the haunting and powerful music of Cree cellist Cris Derksen, the work moves through cycles of grief, joy, and reclamation. This is a dance of remembrance—a way to hold on to stories that have long been passed down through movement rather than words.
